2019 - 2022
Pleasanton SIAC advocated for tobacco ordinances and sale restrictions of e-cigarettes. Pleasanton SIAC wrote letters to the City Council and took part in the City Council public hearing.
On 18 February 2020, the City Council gave initial support to swift regulations that would ban the sales of flavored tobacco, e-cigarettes and related paraphernalia in Pleasanton, hoping to establish a strict anti-tobacco ordinance to help curb teen vaping in the community.
Pleasanton SIAC helped the Pleasanton Youth Commission (PYC) organize a Teen Wellness Event with a common goal of educating the community on the harmful effects of vaping.
On August 25th, 2022, Pleasanton SIAC organized the Tobacco Retail License Press Event to update the community. Speakers attribute the decline to the inaccessibility of vape products and education on the harms of e-cigarettes. Through education, we can make effective decisions on how we can create policies to enact change. Students' voice allows the youth to be included when formulating policies.
